Get fit (or die trying)

I’ve made the decision to compare my current fitness against how I was doing exactly 365 days ago. At the moment, that’s pretty depressing, because I was a whole lot fitter this time last year. However, there is method in my madness, because come 8:16am on Monday 27th January 2014, I will suddenly leap (metaphorically, at least) ahead of my past self and feel a whole lot better about where I am right now.

It’s true that it has taken – is taking, in fact – me longer to recover from my smashed up ankle, but its also true that I probably could have done more to speed up the process – had I the money, time and perhaps a little more motivation to do so. However, the start of the New Year is a watershed moment and I will be prioritising my fitness and recovery (albeit hopefully without spending any more money on it). At the same time, I’ll be cleaning up my diet as well. 11 months of relative inactivity needs correcting and you can’t do that with exercise alone.

Nothing ridiculous here. No “Paleo” nonsense, no “juicing”, no Tim Noakes’ “Cardio Destruction” diet (or whatever it’s called). And there’s not – and there never will be – a CrossFit in sight. Sensible eating, sensible exercise, no daft targets.

Just; improve.

And talking of Twin Peaks…

is David Lynch filming the new Twin Peaks?

“…it appears that Lynch may be filming something new set in and around the World of Twin Peaks as the following casting call from Sande Alessi Casting was recently released.

TWIN PEAKS PROMO. Directed by David Lynch. Shoots in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Prob a 6 hour or less day. Rate is 150/8. You must live in LA to submit. I don’t think SAG has jurisdiction on this, so SAG and NON can submit. I have called SAG to double check this and I am awaiting a call back to confirm this though.HOT Caucasian girl – BRUNETTE OR REDHEADS ONLY to play waitress. Age 18-27. MUST have an amazing body. Busty, very period looking face. Please submit two current color photos (one body shot, one face shot), your sizes, union status and contact info to: SandeAlessiCasting@gmail.com. Subject line should read: TP Promo

In all likelihood it is something for the series, Twin Peaks – The Entire Mystery, finally getting a Blu-ray release in March. Yet we can but dream a little dream and wish for more, new episodes.”

Bust just in case it is something more than the Blu-Ray release, I’m going to invoke the ghosts of Madchen Amick and Sherilyn Fenn by playing the Fire Walk With Me soundtrack on the way home.

Overjoyed

Yes, it’s finally just (about) 48 hours until Bastille play Kirstenbosch Gardens, which is something I’ve been looking forward to for quite a long time now. Sadly, the weather forecast is currently not looking so hot. Or dry. Hmm. As with all Kirstenbosch concerts, the show goes ahead no matter what the weather throws our way.

Still, I’ve done plenty of concerts in the rain before, so herewith Overjoyed – perhaps the most underrated song on their Bad Blood album – with its unnecessarily complex Alt-J-style drum machine background and David Lynch-esque “girl next door buries diary in woods and becomes a prostitute” themed video.

Looking at their recent setlists, we can expect to hear Overjoyed on Wednesday evening, which will please me, if no-one else.

If you’re going along on either Wednesday or Friday, here are the times that things will be happening (valid for both evenings):

17:00 – Gates Open at Kirstenbosch Gardens
19:05 – Bed On Bricks
20:20 – Bastille
21:30 – Concert ends

Expect parking chaos and potentially *gasp* mud.
But above all, expect Dan Smith, his hair and that voice.

Best Fails 2013

No internet for a little while and plenty of emails to catch up on now I’m back in the land of ADSL. One of them included a link to this video and since the last fail video I posted here got several (if not more) hits, I’m giving you this one too.

This compilation allegedly features all the best “fails” from 2013. It’s not my video, the good folks at YouTube sent it to me, so I surely can’t be held responsible for the bad language and bad taste that’s almost certainly included herein. But hey, there are more than a few laughs along the way as well.

“Foursquare” – Cape Agulhas Lighthouse

I’m not on foursquare, which is good for you because it’s annoying and not very much use.

I can however, borrow their name and use it as a blog post title. And thus, herewith, four square photos of Cape Agulhas Lighthouse.

Gorgeous new paint job, hey?

Back to Cape Town now for us. Back to internet, to TV, back to work and to real life. But the memories of an amazing holiday are still very fresh and I already can’t wait to get back there.

There are more photos on flickr.
