well it was one of a few choices

i – naming rights to 1 company e.g. pick n pay stadium or mtn stadium or coke stadium or investec stadium. causes issues with fifa and other sponsors wanting to stage events..e.g. vodocam challenge at the MTN stadium…not so much

ii – neutral name with multiple sponsors e.g. cape town stadium

iii – apartheid activist/heritage name e.g. moses mabhida…wtf?

iv – green point stadium…too confusing..too much baggage..and its been 90% demolished

Just took a peek at your photos, and yes, I did see the Polo reference!

In my defence – it’s round, it’s white and it has a hole in the middle – therefore it’s a Polo mint!

HH > Polo’s are only available in a few select stores (Rosmead Avenue Spar is one of them).
It only looks a bit like a Polo and it would confuse people going to watch footy when there were horses, mallets and posh okes.

I think they’re missing a trick here… why not call it the Polo Stadium, and get Polo Mints in as sponsors? Oh, wait… I can’t remember if one can get Polo Mints in SA – I was one of those “known whites” who left in the 90s!
