wot no pics

Many of my beagle-eyed readers will have noticed that there has been a dearth of photo uploadage from our recent Eastern Cape trip. It’s not that there aren’t photos: in fact, there are heaps of them. But I’ve been planning to invest in download a decent photo editing program for some time now, and I figured that with some great images of lovely animals, this might be the time to do it.

But last night, there was sleeping to be done. The 5:45 wake up call each morning while we were away was well worth it, but wasn’t conducive to fulfilling the mythical 8 hours per night. Mind you, to be fair, neither was watching the Madrid derby in the Champions League.

I’ll switch on my interwebs this evening, find a suitable program and play with some photos.
I know you’re waiting.

Homeward

In which I find myself on a teeny-tiny plane heading back to Cape Town. This is no A380.
It’s actually an Express Jet CRJ200.

And that’s twice as good as a CRJ100. So it’s not all bad news.

Tomorrow’s post will bring photos. As will the following thirty-seven posts, because I took loads and loads.

Right. Now let’s see if this thing can actually fly…

At an Airport

The Airport Lounge Scene

[Boldly and theatrically] “Ah. The wonder of travel! The thrill of flying! Destination: UNKNOWN!”

“We’re going to Port Elizabeth.”

“What?”

“Port Elizabeth. We’re flying to PE.”

“Oh. Right… Thanks.”

Yep. I have mastered the basic vowel sounds in order to communicate with the locals, and I Googled “donkey driving skills” for the cart we have hired.

We’ll be fine.

Right?

Away again (IG: 6000coza)

I’m lucky enough to be heading out of town again this weekend. That’s nice for me, but not so great for you guys, as I’m going to have to rely on pre-written nonsense on here instead of the usual fresh nonsense that you’ve come to know and love.

I’d imagine that you’ll want to share in my travels (because I’m going somewhere particularly cool), so I’ll be sticking some photos up on Flickr when I get back.

However, in the meantime, your best bet (assuming I can find a wifi where I’m going) is probably to follow me on Instagram, here:

So you can see what I see.

Back soon!

And that was it.

The end of the holiday will hit me full on in the earhole early tomorrow morning, as my alarm clock wakes me for another day of toil in the lab. It’s the downside to having a break: the inevitable return to reality. Having been off work for 11 whole days, during which time we drove literally thousands of kilometres and paddled for literally another several, it’s going to be tough to face real life head on in the morning.

And it’s not even as if it’s going to be that bad. Most kids go back to school tomorrow, but thanks to the vagaries of the SA private schooling system, ours have an extra day off. So that’s an extra hour in bed.
Wednesday morning… well… Wednesday morning  is going to be obscene.

The good news is on the horizon. Another long weekend (and another, shorter trip away) at the end of the month. It’s not too long to wait.

And that’s what will keep me going tomorrow. After that though, I don’t know. The next long weekend isn’t until the middle of June.

Killer.
