Speed Demon

I took my daughter along to a birthday party this afternoon. This was a karting party: a “Karty” then, if you will. And a great time was had by all. I took plenty of action shots of various kids going round the track, but given the other sporting things happening this evening, those will have to wait.

For the moment then, this photo of my daughter testing one of the tyre walls at the venue at reasonably high speed.

This image would have been better, but I was actually lining up a shot with the premise that she would be some distance more over to the left of the track as we’re looking, so I wasn’t quite ready for this.

And, by the look of it, neither was she.

Unedited Falcon

It’s been an amazing weekend away with my girl – some great father and daughter time – but we’re back now and we’re knackered.

I haven’t got the time or energy to work through 600+ photos at the moment, so here’s a quick shot from camera to phone to blog of a Rock Kestrel or Kransvalk that we spotted on our way back from this morning’s wander in Suiderstrand.

So… more to come at some point soon.

Sunrise

It was at 7:23 local time here this morning.

And in the words of Douglas Adams:

Several billion trillion tons of superhot exploding hydrogen nuclei rose slowly above the horizon and managed to look small, cold and slightly damp.

A quote made for this image:

The early morning fog is already burning off, and we’re in for another sunny Autumnal day.

Have a good one, wherever you are.

Baby Lemon Dove

A second quota photo for this weekend, taken last month at Kirstenbosch. A fledgling Lemon Dove (Columba larvata), working on the assumption that it becomes completely invisible if it doesn’t move.

You can see an equally visible brother or sister in the background.

We went back a couple of weeks later, and I’m pleased to report that both the chicks were doing really well, despite their terrible ideas about what constitutes good camouflage.

Time off

We’re away relaxing this weekend, so here is the first of 2 (two) pre-written posts to keep the audience entertained [really? – Ed.] whilst also meaning that I don’t have to do anything on here until Monday.

This one is a Fortnight Lily (Dietes grandiflora) with a bee (Apis mellifera) about to land on it.

Awfully overexposed in parts, but maybe somehow more dramatic because of that?

Or am I clutching at straws here?
