Just back from the Argentina v Germany quarter final, slightly drunk and hugely disappointed with the South American capitulation.
This sums it up nicely.

Another new angle on the new stadium from Ocean View Drive.

Look, although there’s a great view of the ocean from there, I can’t remember anyone actually stopping just to have a look from this rather ordinary bend on the road.
Cape Town really does have a new landmark.

A quick sepia snap of the Silvermine skyline from the braai we were at last night. The clouds were pretty.

I’m not a big fan of sepia, but on this occasion, it just seemed right.

Remember Easter in 2007?

No – me neither. But I found a nice sunset picture from back then that I thought might be appropriate for a quick quota photo this evening. It’s quiet, serene, beautiful: calm.

South Africa has made it safely and quietly through two days since the death of Eugene Terre’Blanche. It’s a good start.
Life goes on, despite the supposed threats, anger and hatred.

Not feeling great today, so quick quota photo taken from the Elton John concert the other night.

Those are Cape Town’s Northern Suburbs in the sun, Goodwood through to Bellville. And in the foreground, in the shadow of the mountain, Newlands Stadium.
Somewhere between the two (towards the right) is the Athlone Power Station, whose two iconic cooling towers are due for demolition on 30th May this year, prompting a storm of protest from some quarters that it is happening “so close to the World Cup”. 

I don’t think they realise that it’s more likely to take 12 seconds than 12 days.

Public holidays throw me out. Not throw me out like that wholly unjustified bouncer at Fireman’s last week. Nor as in a piece of rubbish (which again, links in nicely with the Fireman’s episode, because I ended up face first in a wheelie bin).
No. They throw me out because now I think that today is Sunday (it’s not) and tomorrow is Monday (it’s not). This misapprehension will continue through tomorrow (Monday), the day after (Tuesday) and it will be Thursday before I even realise that it is actually Thursday.

I was so thrown out today that I almost forgot to blog.

Yes. That’s what I felt like when I realised.

Typically, it being a Sunday morning (except it’s Monday), we headed down to the beach to give the kids some fresh air and steal some shells. Alex was in the midst of a particularly generous collective of mussels when a completely unexpected wave came after him. The result was the photo above.

Since I’m stuck in the house with a small girl who is engrossed in Barbie presents Thumbelina for the 1000th time, I thought I’d chuck up a couple of quota photos. And today’s theme is road signs.

There are so many new signs going up around the city as part of the infrastructure upgrades for the World Cup (and beyond). Not that these ones will be replaced. Edinburgh Drive is still Edinburgh Drive and the M3 still goes to Cape Town.
