Day 251 – This new world

We watched our daughter perform on stage tonight for the first time in… ages.

The end of year school concert. Marvellous.

Obviously, we weren’t allowed to be there to see it in person, but thanks to the miracles of technology, it was streamed on Youtube this evening. And so the family huddled around the Samsung Curved TV in the corner and enjoyed a stunning rendition of Colours Of The Wind from Disney’s Pocahontas.

Some proper rainbowism in a difficult year for racial relations.

Tomorrow (no concerts) I have to find time to bang in a couple of extra blog posts because I am away for a couple of days next week at a place with… no internet.

I was reminded of this album title:

I’m not into digital detoxing. I don’t need it. I’m a reasonable user. I just like to stay in touch.

But weirdly, I am also kinda looking forward to it.

More of that later though. Right now I’m off to share Youtube links with proud grandparents.

Day 249 – A Fun Day

I helped out with one of the school Fun Days today. We went to Fishhoek beach and we had a great time. It was a reminder that if kids are allowed to just get on with being kids, then they will be kids.
We did the things that the kids wanted to do.
We played in the water, we played football, we built sandcastles.

It was a fantastic morning.

Fishhoek was showing off its tropical side and I did get a bit toasted by the sun – only on the bits where the sunblock had been washed off by the warm sea – my eyes are still hurting from the light bouncing off the fine, white sand.

I have also brought quite a lot of the fine, white sand home with me. It is everywhere. It will be everywhere for weeks to come.

A small price to pay for a good day out.

Day 242 – Mostly positives

I started my Monday morning with a long list of jobs to do and things to achieve.

Wait for it…

And I did and achieved most of them. Ta-dah!

There is food in the kitchen cupboard once again and the lawn is mowed. Mown? Mowed?
Mowned.  Let’s stick with mowned.

The delivery I had to do down south was straightforward, and the meeting that I hadn’t been looking forward to very much, went well… I think.

This evening, I attended a webinar on the dining room table about online safety for my kids, and it was interesting, even if the guy did go on a bit too long. I’m not sure that Mrs 6000 was supposed to download and play Among Us while he was talking, but that does appear to be what happened. I must just watch her screentime…

Even the kitchen cupboard flinging a glass at me late in the evening failed to dampen my spirits. I actually love the new sparkly effect across the floor in front of the fridge. I can’t believe we never did this before.

Tomorrow promises rain (hence my getting the mowning done today) and there are still a couple of outstanding tasks I need to take care of (not least vacuuming and mopping the kitchen floor now), but generally, this has been a very good day.

More of this sort of thing, please.

Day 237 – Dragging

I didn’t sleep much last night. I thought that I was going to sleep well, because I was about to fall asleep on the couch in front of the football so I chose to go and do it in bed (careful now), but by the time I’d sorted the beagle, locked up and got upstairs, I was wide awake. Wiiiide awake.

Lot and lots going on in my mind. My health insurance people would have had a field day.

Things stayed like that for about four hours. And then once I did get to sleep, I woke disappointingly early and lay there for another 1½ hours… just thinking.

I wouldn’t advise it. It’s left me feeling like a zombie today, and yet there were all the things that the awake me should have been doing today, still to be done. What a disaster.

I’m long overdue a “catchup” night, whereby I… er… catch up on my sleep that I’ve missed over the last n nights. I’m very hopeful that tonight will be that sort of night. I need it. Especially as my son has just asked me to explain the formula for compound interest:

Normally when in this condition, I’d fob him off with an “ask your mum” or a “come back tomorrow and I’ll explain”, but she’s not home and he actually has a maths exam tomorrow, so I used the last of my brain power to try and talk him through it.

That’s why this blog post is so poorly written and disjointed.

There’s literally nothing left. I’m so sorry.
